AI Ethical Principles

At Otava, we are committed to using artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly, respecting copyright law and the work of our textbook authors. These ethical principles guide our use of AI.

We respect authors, illustrators, and other creators of our books.

  • Human creativity is our most valuable asset.
  • Quality requires human involvement. AI can support and complement human creativity.
  • AI is just one practical tool among many others for us. We use it to streamline our work for the benefit of our creators and partners.

We respect copyright.

  • We only use closed AI environments for processing copyright-protected content.
  • We follow all applicable laws and consider other regulations, and we highlight copyright in the AI discourse.
  • We protect our creators’ content from data mining.

We disclose when we use AI.

  • We disclose if our published products or services use content created entirely by AI.
  • We also oblige our partners to follow our guidelines and disclose how they have used AI.

We use AI responsibly.

  • The responsibility for decisions always rests with humans.
  • We promote diversity, non-discrimination, and fairness in our operations. We pay special attention to these values when using AI.
  • We ensure information security and the protection of personal data. We take into account changes in legislation and other norms in the collection, processing, and storage of data.
  • We monitor technological developments and public discussion on AI. We regularly assess the impacts and potential risks of using AI.
  • We train and instruct our personnel in the responsible use of AI.

These principles were established in December 2024. Last update was made in November 2025. We will update them as necessary.
