Kallio

Kallio is an easy-to-use series for geography that meets the needs of a wide range of learners. The series allows teachers to impart key knowledge and skills related to geography using clearly written texts, a wide range of exercises and illustrative videos.

In addition to providing knowledge, Kallio teaches study skills and inspires pupils to learn in a way that suits them, taking varying skill levels into account. The new up-to-date materials support the pupils’ literacy and the development of language proficiency in a multitude of ways.

The series has also been designed to make the teacher’s everyday work easier, and it offers a wide range of solutions for differentiation, for example, with the help of a new kind of book called Ytimessä (At the Core).

The product family includes a textbook, a digital book, the Ytimessä book and digital materials. The digital materials include videos made for the series, a new type of atlas, plenty of background material and a wide range of exercises.

The first part of the Kallio series, Elävä planeetta (Living Planet) introduces pupils to key phenomena in natural geography. The book introduces the Earth’s structure and its movement in space, the Earth’s climate and vegetation, and the human impact on the landscape around us. The living planet is also showcased in the book’s impressive illustrations. Numerous drawings and maps illustrate a wide range of geographic phenomena.

The Ytimessä book supports the pupils and makes the teacher’s daily work easier

The Ytimessä (At the Core) book in the Kallio series is meant for pupils who have trouble following the textbook due to, for example, linguistic challenges. It provides support for pupils of many levels, and it can easily be used side by side with the textbook. The pupil can use only the Ytimessä book or switch to the Kallio textbook as their skills accumulate. Ytimessä follows the same structure as the textbook, but the texts have been shortened.

Ytimessä contains the most important information to be learned and helps the pupil practice the language and study skills needed for studying geography. In addition, the book contains a wide range of exercises to build up the pupil’s geography skills. The exercises are designed to match the book’s level, and they are completed in the book. The book also has plenty of space for the pupil’s own notes.
